Interview

Oxana’s Australian Tour Week 1

Australian Tour Day 0

The day has come and I am finally going to Terra Australis, where I will spend the next 30 days. If I had been told when I was seven, that I would fly to the country where “The Ocean Girl” was filmed (anyone else watched it or is it just me? I so loved it!), where the characters of Jules Verne’s “In Search of the Castaways” travelled along the 37th parallel trying to find Captain Grant, I would have gone out of my mind. What a pity I’m not seven years old! I would have been soooo enthusiastic!

Of course, I am very happy, though my joy looks completely different. On the one hand I look forward to my concerts, meetings with the public, masterclasses, interviews, new acquaintances, travels; on the other hand – it was hard to leave my prettiest bun in the world at home. And although I know that in my absence she will be closely watched by a pair of keen eyes of her attentive and very loving dad (as well as her grandparents), it is still sad.Nevertheless, I am on my way.

I will fly almost 30 hours with transfers in Paris and Singapore before arriving in Perth. On board with me: “Lavr” by Vodolazkin, Greek language for beginners, a pen, a pencil, a notebook and four apples that I need to eat before the Australian border control finds them.

Australian Tour Day 1

Perth is sunny and beautiful — amazing. I might just forget why am I even here.
The first day after the flight is supposed to be a nightmare, because of the heavy jetlag. I’ve apparently lost my jetlag somewhere between Paris and Singapore. If you happen to find it — let me know!

Australian Tour Day 2

My jetlag eventually found me and the second night began parallel to the Moscow night, and ended when the Perth morning started, and today my eyes looked all day in different directions.

When I came to practice, I discovered that my fingers were stuck together and turned into nice, but motionless, claws. Three hours of practice brought them to life, but not quite. Many thanks to Australian Piano Warehouse Perth for letting me practice!

Australian Tour Day 3

Finally, the concert day!

My tour began in Mandurah – the second largest city of Western Australia, which is an hour drive south from Perth.

My concert coincided with the crab festival and surprisingly, even the crabs did not distract the audience from the classical music – the hall was full and the audience listened so attentively that they awakened some kind of sudden, unexpected (but very welcomed) inspiration.

Thank you for a really good start, Mandurah ❤

Australian Tour Day 4

Mandurah – a city in Western Australia, twenty years ago there were mostly holidaymakers, who liked their holiday so much that they remained If you saw how well people live here, what amazing playgrounds for children they have, what a beautiful ocean shore there is, how dolphins are playing in the inlet – you would probably also want to stay.

Many live on the water, almost like in Venice – you go out and take your yacht and go. Toponyms are also all entirely Venetian: Cannaregio, Marco Polo, etc. The city stretches so narrowly along the water that it was impossible to walk on foot. So I used two types of transport: a bicycle and a boat. The boat promised us dolphin watching, the idea was to see where dolphins gather and play. No dolphins to be see today. The bike ride was, on the contrary, very good. I loved my ride.

🌅

Australian Tour Day 5

Heading south, we arrived in Bunbury – a small city, stretched along a peninsula, surrounded by a beautiful ocean.
First I went for a public talk to the local secondary school. We had a fun time with kids and I even got to listen to a song by «Muse» transcribed for piano 🤘The evening was the time for a real masterclass. Numerous public gathered at the concert hall, I suspect some were coming to listen to a concert 😱The students were lovely. They played different music: classical, jazz and even an Australian contemporary neo-romantic piece – one boy who announced he was Beethoven sonata, all of a sudden started to play his own composition, which was nice, romantic and rather sharp (to be precise: c sharp major)🎵

🎵

Australian Tour Day 6

Today is my day off, which means I can go on a small trip. Especial for the young naturalists there are fabulous attractions, such as Cape Naturalist, the amazing Sugar Loaf (hello Rio!) and Geographie Bay.🐳

I was really wanting to see the whales, but they told me that they had sailed closer to Antarctica for the summer and would only return in winter when they start their mirgration north. So I had to invent whales for myself – one of them pretended to be an underwater reef and occasionally showed me his back, and the other sailed over the top of me in the form of a huge cloud. I have thus solved the problem of seeing whales.

Dolphins, as I have already complained, are elusive, but sharks are very active, but fortunately I don’t care.
