Melbourne-based Pianist and Composer Peter de Jager is one of Australia's most exciting musicians. His repertoire is diverse, stretching from early music to standard and contemporary repertoire, as well as cabaret and music theatre. He has three times attended the Lucerne Festival Academy, directed by Pierre Boulez. In 2011 he was the first winner of the Australian International Chopin Competition, and in 2013 was a prizewinner and semifinalist in the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition. Also in 2013, he joined Oboist Ben Opie on the critically acclaimed album “French Oboe Sonatas”. His compositions are starting to gain attention, with recent commissions by Astra, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, and Speak Percussion. He co- rote Reception: The Musical with actor/writer Bethany Simons, which has been delighting audiences Australia-wide. Peter is the 2014 Freedman Fellow.
